A Summary of "Students' attitudes towards computer-assisted language learning"

This article is about the students' attitudes towards computer assisted language learning. Its purpose is to identify and examine the students' attitudes towards CALL. It is conducted by four researchers in Malaysia: Afshari, Ghavifekr, Siraj, and Jing.
This article shows the relationships among four variables: subjective norm (SN), perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEU), and attitudes toward CALL. Data was collected  from 100 students at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at University of Malaya. The researchers distributed a questionnaire among students. Participants from different fields completed the questionnaire.
The results indicate that students' PU and PEU were factors of their attitudes towards CALL. Both variables (PU and PEU) had a direct and significant effect on students' attitudes towards CALL. They indicated that as students' perceptions of computer improve, their attitudes will be enhanced as well. SN can be a determinant of students' attitudes towards CALL. SN had a direct and indirect effect on students' attitudes towards CALL.
Finally, the researchers present three suggestions:
Training should be provided for learners to learn the computer skills and the positive attitude.
Computer lab and language lab should be opened to students.
Lecturers should be encouraged to integrate more computer technology into their teaching and curriculum design.

My Daughters

My maternal feelings towards my daughters make me tired. I wish that these feelings are enough to protect my daughters and fill them with love. I love you Rund and Rodain.

Linguistic Hegemony

Last year, I and my colleagues, Aysha and Wijdan, have conducted a study about the hegemony of English. Its title is Linguistic Hegemony.
It presents the effect of English language on Saudi female learners from different aspects, such as culture, personality and social life. Linguistic hegemony is defined as a kind of power that empowers some and disempowers others. The paper investigates the impact of English linguistic hegemony on Saudi students by a questionnaire and an interview.  The data have been collected from the students of king Khalid University. In brief, this study focuses on three main ideas: a) English is a global language, b) The effect of English on Saudi learners and c) the hegemony of the English language. Finally, this paper has been concluded by analyzing the different opinions of students about English hegemony and its effects.
