The Religious Objectives of English Curriculum in Saudi Arabia

This is a topic of one of my term papers with Dr. Mohammed Amin. Here is the abstract.

Abstract
This paper investigates whether the Saudi curriculum of English is designed to help in achieving the religious objectives or not. There are religious objectives in teaching English in Saudi Arabia and they should be achieved by teachers. As a researcher, I analyze a number of both old and developed (new) textbooks. The results show that the old textbooks have more lessons and contain more Islamic issues than the developed ones. Finally, this paper is concluded by presenting an interview with a number of English teachers concerning their achievement of the religious objectives. A suggestion is presented to involve more Islamic issues in the developed textbooks to achieve the religious objective of teaching English in Saudi Arabia successfully.

Keywords: The English curriculum, Saudi Arabia, the religious objectives, and English teachers.
